BHAGVAD GITA SCHOLARSHIP

OBJECTIVES

The Bhagvad Gita Sanatan Dharma Scholarship aims to promote independent research, focusing on the rational foundation and the teachings of the Bhagvad Gita.

The Bhagvad Gita is a well-known Hindu spiritual text which is universally accepted not just for its sanctity, but also as a guide in our day-to-day life i.e. “a handbook of life”. Messages from Bhagvad Gita such as: “Inaction in action and action in inaction” of Bhagvad Gita are within the reach of common seeker of all ages.

The scholarship offers multiple earning opportunities based on age and education level. Eligibility for the scholarship is extended to any student who is currently enrolled in the United States education
system at the middle school and high school.

AVAILABLE SCHOLARSHIPS

  • High School Level – 3, $201 each
  • Middle School Level – 3, $151 each

HOW DOES SCHOLARSHIP WORK?

  • Specific Gita Shlokas will be given to participants as per age group
  • They are required to memorize Shlokas and understand the meaning: For middle school: memorize only 5 shlokas, For high school: memorize 10 shlokas
  • Submission: Audio of recitation and your own written explanation
  • There will be a Video conference/interview with short listed candidates on diction and meaning of Shlokas
  • Winners will be announced via email / website

HOW TO APPLY 

Applicants must submit:

  • This Science and Sanatan Dharma Scholarship application form
  • A one paragraph summary of your community service work from the current academic year
  • A transcript (official or unofficial) or report card
  • A recorded audio of your shloka recitation in mp3 format (memorize and recite from memory) – download Gita Shlokas using link below
  • Short essay describing your own explanation of these Shlokas and how you could apply the teachings from these Shlokas into your personal life
  • Submission deadline is 8th August 2016.

Entries Open : 2015 Science and Sanatan Dharma Scholarship Awards

We are pleased to announce the essay topics for the 2015 Science and Sanatan Dharma Scholarship.

This year the focus is on blood and bone marrow drives organized by your mandir. Please check web site, http://hindusgiftoflife.org/ for examples of work being done on this front. Eligibility for the scholarship is extended to any currently enrolled student in the United States/Canadian education system or the Caribbean Countries at the middle school, high school, and college/university level.

Winners will be announced at HMEC – 10 in Trinidad on 2-4 October, 2015. This will enable the students to give a talk on their essay submission.

This year’s objectives are:

  • To encourage volunteerism among youth for Hindu organizations.
  • To foster Hindu values of seva in students.

2015 Essay topics:

College Students:

  • “Conducting, growing and / or educating Hindu-temple devotees about blood and bone marrow drives in your Mandir.” How did this event affect the community, you personally and why would you do this type of service again?

High School Students:

  • “Seva/Volunteering at blood and bone marrow drives in your Mandir.” How did this event affect the community, you personally and why would you do this type of service again?

Middle School Students:

  • Describes the following Avenues of Seva / Volunteering
  • Karyatmak Seva (Seva through Action)
  • Bhavnatmak Seva (Seva through Emotion)
  • Gyanatmak Seva (Seva through Knowledge)
  • Danam (Donation in form)

2015 Awards:

  • 1 College Scholarship award of $750
  • 2 High School Scholarship awards of $350 each.
  • 2 Middle School Scholarship awards of $100 each.

2015 Submission Deadline:

  • All complete applications must be submitted before August 31st, 2015.

TOPIC- Discuss Swami Vivekananda’s views of Science, and how it relates to Vedic spirituality.

Middle School:

TOPIC- Is there any manifestation of God (Ganesh, Shiva, Vishnu, Ram, Durga etc) that you would like to emulate in your daily life? Which attribute(s) of that God appeals to you, and why?
